A damaged hydraulic hose does not always require a mobile engineer to come to site.
If the hose can be removed safely and brought to one of Completely Hydraulic’s trade counters, our team can identify the hose and fittings, manufacture a suitable replacement assembly and get you back to work as quickly as practical.
Walk-in hydraulic hose support is available through our trade counters in Harlow, Dagenham, Belvedere and Hayes.
Bring the removed hydraulic hose to a CH trade counter and our team can help identify the hose size, fitting type and required specification before manufacturing a replacement assembly. Turnaround depends on the hose, fittings, stock and complexity, but many standard assemblies can be produced while you wait.

Typical Walk-In Hose Replacement Process
1. Inspect the old hose
The removed hose can provide useful information about size, fittings, orientation and the type of hose previously installed.
2. Identify the connections
The thread type, sealing method, fitting style and size need to be correctly identified.
3. Confirm the hose specification
The replacement must be suitable for the required pressure, fluid, temperature and application.
4. Manufacture the new assembly
The hose is cut and assembled using compatible hose and fittings appropriate to the specification.
5. Final inspection
The completed hose assembly is checked before being supplied back to the customer.
A replacement hydraulic hose should not simply copy the outside diameter of the old hose. Correct identification also requires the nominal bore, pressure requirement, hose construction, fittings, fluid, temperature and application.
CH trade counters support a broad range of industrial and mobile hydraulic hose requirements, subject to specification and stock.
These can include:
Different hose constructions are designed for different working pressures, bend radii, impulse duty, fluids and temperatures.
A higher-pressure hose is not automatically a better replacement if its size, flexibility or fittings are wrong for the machine.
See our Hydraulic Hose Guide.
Hydraulic hose size normally refers to its nominal inside diameter or bore.
Useful information can include:
If the markings are still visible, the hose layline may identify the manufacturer, series, nominal size and pressure information.
Read our Hydraulic Hose Layline Guide and Hydraulic Hose Sizes Guide.
Hydraulic systems use many different fitting and thread standards.
Common connection types can include:
Correct identification matters because fittings with similar dimensions may use different thread forms or sealing methods.
See Hydraulic Fittings & Adapters.
In many cases, yes.
The removed hose can be very useful because the team can inspect:
However, copying the old hose exactly is not always the correct solution.
If the hose failed because of abrasion, twisting, heat, poor routing or an unsuitable specification, reproducing the same assembly without addressing the cause may allow the problem to happen again.
A few photographs showing how the hose sits on the machine before removal can be useful, particularly where fitting orientation, routing or movement may have contributed to the failure.
Turnaround depends on the assembly required.
Many common hose assemblies can be manufactured at the trade counter while the customer waits, but the actual time depends on:
If downtime is critical, calling ahead can help confirm that the necessary hose and fittings are available.
For normal trade-counter hose requirements, customers can usually visit during the depot’s opening hours without booking a formal engineering appointment.
For specialist hoses, multiple assemblies or unusual components, contacting the depot before travelling can help confirm availability.
The original assembly can usually provide a useful starting point, but a replacement hose should still be checked against the application.
The team may need to consider:
This is especially important where the same hose has failed more than once.
A burst or leaking hose can result from several different causes.
Common examples include:
Understanding the failure mechanism can be particularly important if the hose is part of a critical or repeatedly failing circuit.
Read our Hydraulic Hose Failure Causes Guide.
Hydraulic systems can retain dangerous pressure even after machinery has stopped. Follow the manufacturer’s isolation and depressurisation procedure before removing a hose. Never use your hand to search for a pressurised hydraulic leak because high-pressure fluid can penetrate the skin and cause serious injury.
Once a hose has been removed, protect the open ports or connections from dirt and contamination until the replacement is installed.
A damaged pressure hose should normally be replaced as a complete suitable hose assembly rather than patched.
Damage such as:
can indicate that the integrity of the pressure-containing assembly has been compromised.
Yes. CH trade counters also support hydraulic oil requirements.
If oil has been lost during a hose failure, the replacement fluid should match the machine’s required specification rather than simply selecting whichever ISO viscosity grade is available.
See our Hydraulic Oil ISO Grades Guide.
Some machines require specialist or OEM-specific hydraulic oil. Using the wrong oil can cause serious damage.
Check Your Oil NowCompletely Hydraulic operates four hydraulic trade counters:
| Area | Depot | Support |
|---|---|---|
| Essex | Harlow | Trade counter, hoses, components and hydraulic support. |
| London | Dagenham | Trade counter, hoses, components and hydraulic support. |
| Kent | Belvedere | Trade counter, hoses, components and hydraulic support. |
| Heathrow | Hayes | Trade counter, hoses, components and hydraulic support. |
Full location information is available on the CH Hydraulic Trade Counter Network page.
Birmingham and the West Midlands are supported by CH mobile engineering rather than a walk-in trade counter.
CH also supports hydraulic cylinder and ram repairs through its workshop network.
If you have a damaged cylinder, the unit can be assessed for repair depending on its condition and the work required.
Typical cylinder faults can include:
See Hydraulic Ram & Cylinder Repair.
| Situation | Possible Best Route |
|---|---|
| Hose already removed and transport available | Trade counter can be a quick and practical option. |
| Machine stranded on site | Mobile hydraulic service may be more appropriate. |
| Hose difficult or unsafe to remove | Consider mobile engineering assistance. |
| Repeated hose failure | The application may need engineering inspection rather than simple replacement. |
| Multiple hoses required for planned maintenance | Contact CH so the requirement can be planned in advance. |

A hydraulic trade counter gives customers access to more than a hose-cutting service.
CH can also support:
Completely Hydraulic is also an official Alfagomma distributor, supporting professional hydraulic hose and component requirements across the CH network.
If a hydraulic hose can be removed safely, bringing it to a CH trade counter can be one of the quickest ways to obtain a correctly identified replacement. For common assemblies, the new hose can often be manufactured while you wait. If the machine is stranded, the hose cannot be removed safely or the same hose keeps failing, mobile engineering support may be the better option.
Bring the removed hose to your nearest CH trade counter, or call first if you need to confirm availability for an unusual hose or fitting.
Many common hydraulic hose assemblies can be manufactured at a CH trade counter while you wait, subject to hose type, fittings, stock, complexity and current workload.
Normal walk-in hose requirements can usually be handled during trade-counter opening hours without a formal appointment. Calling ahead is useful for unusual or specialist hoses.
The removed hose is usually the most useful item. Machine information, photographs, hose markings and pressure or application details can also help with correct identification.
The existing hose can provide important measurements and fitting information, but the replacement should still be suitable for the actual pressure, fluid, temperature and machine application.
CH supports a broad range of common hydraulic connections including BSP, JIC, ORFS, metric and other fitting systems, subject to correct identification and availability.
Yes, provided it has been safely removed from the machine after the hydraulic system has been properly isolated and depressurised.
A damaged pressure hose should normally be replaced with a suitable complete hose assembly rather than patched.
Repeated hose failure can indicate abrasion, twisting, poor routing, heat, incorrect bend radius, pressure conditions or an unsuitable hose specification. The underlying cause should be investigated.
CH operates trade counters in Harlow, Dagenham, Belvedere and Hayes, serving Essex, London, Kent and Heathrow.
If the machine is stranded or the hose cannot be removed safely, CH’s mobile hydraulic engineering service may be more appropriate.
